Able to lead a route

Because this was a personalised trip, we only had two days of coaching, which meant a very compressed time for instruction. The instruction for Kuldip – who had never climbed outdoors before – was great. After only two days, he learned about route-finding and developed his footwork and balance techniques – to the point that he was able to lead a route by the end of the trip. As an experienced sport climber, I did not expect to progress much in two days, but I did consolidate my understanding of movement, footwork and route finding. My focus was on gaining confidence climbing outdoors with Kuldip belaying me. I think it might have helped if we had spend more time practicing climbing together with supervision, but I understand that there was so little time and it wasn’t possible to do everything.
